A REASON TO WRITE....

Why do I write?
Poses the pen
Flipped by my fingers
collating random thoughts

I ponder
Ask me instead
Why do I breathe?
Why do I eat?
Why do I laugh or cry?
Why do I live?

I would dwell, answering

in one breath
revolving around
perceptions, notions, reflections
dressing my demeanor
one for self, one for the mirror.

A million reasons around me
Not limiting life to mere survival
Enough, perhaps
To live, breathe, eat, laugh and cry

And to write too?

I wonder

Do I have a reason to write?

Like a child who needs none to play
Do I need one?

  1. Akila...The first lesson that a writer learns is that everything and anything can nourish a writer's mind. Very well put!

  2. Akila, nice to meet you here in Poetry Pantry. Welcome! I agree with you....one does not need a reason to breathe, but one MUST breathe. A poet does not need a reason to write. He / she must! Well penned.

glad to see you here. Well, we all write for the sheer joy of writing. Will anything hold as a good a reason as this? :)

  13. Right you are Akila, the reasoning comes afterwards. First comes the need, the compulsion.

    Very beautiful.

  15. Oh what a nice rhythm it had! The concept itself revealed much of our thinking. we arent great thinkers you know we just write without much of a reason :)
